I know. The 3 other top seeds all have a team in their group who could conceivably beat them and will at least push them. But Australia will have 3 thrashings.

As a netball watcher, I have personally always held the CWG and the WC in the same level of prestige, with the tournaments clearly the pinnacle events in the netball world. I have been interpreting a few articles recently leading up to the WC in a way that seems that the WC is more of a focus though. Does anyone with inside knowledge from players/coaches/teams know if this is the case? Or is the WC the ultimate goal because it is at the end of the 4-year cycle? Or am I totally misinterpreting these articles?

Australia was always going to have a weaker pool. The 8th seed, no matter which country, was never going to be as strong as South Africa, Malawi and Uganda. Maybe it would have been a bit tougher if it were Scotland, but it still wouldn’t be the same as the other top three who have genuine threats in their pools.
In saying that, as Northern Ireland isn’t as strong as teams 5, 6 and 7, this could be a good opportunity for Zimbabwe or Sri Lanka to cause an upset. I would still think NI should have enough to finish second behind Australia, but who will finish top three isn’t as clear cut as in the other three groups.
Pool C is very rough. Interested to see how having Samantha Wallace in SSN and Kalifa McCollin in VNSL has helped Trinidad and Tobago. Don’t think they’ll beat either Jamaica or South Africa, but I certainly think they’ll give them both a really tough game. And Fiji should hopefully be a bit stronger here than at the Comm Games.

They are different entities in that the World Cup is the world championship of the sport of netball, whereas the Comm Games is a multi sport event and seeing as netball isn’t in the Olympics, the CG is as big as it gets in that regard. They are both regarded highly, but without knowing for absolute certain, I would say that if you asked players, coaches, administrators etc to rank them, the WC would be rated just slightly on top.

So – Pool D – Scotland or Uganda as second qualifier from that pool?
