Tayla  Honey has torn her Achilles. Devastating news. Was really looking forward to seeing her play and from all reports she had been training the house down.

Both Samason and Honey to miss the season. Two of the best Vixens youngsters. But I’m sure they will stick by them with support during the rehab.

Vixens have loads of young defenders ready to step up but no obvious replacement here. Maybe they go with Sacha McDonald (replaced Samason as a training partner) who is a GA-WA. Rainbow remains a VIS scholarship holder and within the NV pathways so that isn’t out of the question. Dunkley is a training partner but I’m not convinced.

They could replace Honey with Mundy (O’Donnell’s daughter). So one Former Diamond WA’s daughter with another. No, that won’t happen. Too soon for Mundy. She needs a few years with Fury.

I hear Mundy is in a moon boot at the moment, so not likely!

I was only joking that they would pick Mundy. Like I said way too early.

More bad news on the injury front though. Too many injuries running through the Victorian youngsters.

Doesn’t matter. If Vixens offer her a contract she can sign that. See gooden of 2018.

I think it would be great to get Rainbow in to be honest.

Given that whoever is selected as the replacement player is likely to be sitting on the bench for virtually the whole season (given she is behind Hallinan, Moloney, Watson as C/WA cover and then Delaney/Weston/Mannix as WD cover) it would be very strange if a Vixens training partner were not the one promoted. After all, they have been fully involved in Vixens pre-season including set plays, guiding philosophyteam culture etc.

If Vixens had wanted Rainbow as a training partner (either last year or this year) they could have signed her, I would think it unlikely they would promote a Magpies partner ahead of their own.

Last year was a bit different in that the contracted training partner when Emma Ryde was ruled out  (Samason) was a first year development player & Gooden was ahead of her by virtue of greater experience.

I’d go with Sacha McDonald (replaced Samason as a training partner after her ACL). Yes, very young. But is the most likely successor for Philip in GA. Plays GA and WA and would provide good flexibility in attack. Ingles can always move forward to cover C. McDonald was MVP of the u 19 GF as a bottom age player last year and had a really good season with Fury. Played mainly GA for Fury but also a bit of WA.

Any update on Kumwenda? Maybe they will leave a spot in the 10 for her to come back, all going to plan MJ may be good to go come about round 5 or so.
