Not me, but it will be great to watch, and they will be strong contenders for finals with lots of team rebuilding (Lightning, Giants, Magpies, Thunderbirds)

Mar 23, 2013This is fabulous news! The team looks amazing.
It is going to be interesting to see who the other contracted players are though. Jacquie Newton looked great Sunday playing for City West Falcons, and her team mate playing GD got the MVP (Zoe someone. Sorry, didn’t catch the surname). They were being boxed out and screened beautifully at the start and then they really worked themselves out and got better connected as the game went on. Taylia Honey got on for the 2nd half of the game and she looked great too. Just against a pretty dominant C player so might have been a structured game plan for the half game. And Jane Cook looked as strong as I’ve seen her ever play. She had really sticky fingers and was taking in ugly ball when it counted. Might be on the books somewhere for the magpies perhaps?

Mar 25, 2013Jane Cook was a training partner with Magpies and played ANL with them so will probably be there.
I think Honey will get a spot at Vixens with hopefully Samason as well getting one. I expect Newton will be retained as a training partner. Great young player they are bringing through.

Jul 18, 2013this reminds me so much of when Swifts dropped Cox and she went to Vixens for a fairy tale farewell ….
Cox went to Fever from the Swifts, Vixens after that.

Jul 15, 2017Yeah, Vixens gain results from very questionable Magpie strategy.

Feb 3, 2007I’d say it has to be salary cap and age related again. Nelson has got many more years left in the game and probably won’t take up as much of the cap.

Aug 10, 2015In the past, I’ve been a bit critical of LA’s comments re the number of imports. However, coupled with the impact of the salary cap, for the first time I think there is a potential problem for the Diamonds. In this case, the two factors combined means that an experienced, quality (Diamond quality) player may not get proper court time because she would (quite rightly) demand a higher pay cheque and has less playing years left (at least in comparison to a 20 year old). That being said, I don’t think limiting the number of imports to 2 / team would make a difference in this situation. The problem seems to be more the number of import shooters across the whole league. But there is a genuine concern for Aus netball when a Diamond GS (and arguably not far off the first choice GS) is put in this position.
