If their ranking sinks low enough they might not get screwed over by the World Cup draw next time! Being rankes 9th last time didn’t help them much!

Here is the latest list and I’ve also provided an explanation of the 4 different numbers to show how it works for those who are interested

    1) Qualifying games
The amount of games played in the qualifying period which is 4 years. Must play 8+ games to qualify

    2) Weighted games
The amount of games a team has played in past 3 years which are what actually count towards the rating

    3) Total points
The points earned from the weighted games. Games in last year worth full points, previous 2 years worth half points

    4) Rating number
This is the total points divided by the weighted games. Eg Australia 5636 / 27 = 208.7037 which is rounded up to 209

    1 Australia – 41 27 5636 209
    2 New Zealand – 52 37 6874 186
    3 England – 54 35 5604 160
    4 Jamaica – 27 18 2684 149

I haven’t seen the rankings in years. I’m surprised to see us that close tbh. I thought Aus were atleast 50-60 points higher. We’re lucky to beat them in a years cycle. Maybe the odd win or two. Interesting, and look at England right up there with us. Good for them!

Jamaica not too far behind them and South Africa not far behind them. Bit of a gap between Malawi, but it just shows perhaps there isn’t enough games played in year for some of these International teams.

These were the top ten in March:
    1 Australia 45 35 7277 208
    2 New Zealand 56 43 7998 186
    3 England 57 40 6470 162
    4 Jamaica 27 21 3187 152
    5 South Africa 42 32 4427 138
    6 Malawi 23 16 2186 137
    7 Fiji 27 20 2348 117
    8 Wales 34 25 2813 113
    9 Trinidad & Tobago 35 22 2208 100
    10 Scotland 38 26 2518 97

So Australia getting slightly better and England going backwards. Well, maybe that’s true in some parallel universe.

With regards to England, remember Jamaica has beaten them the last 2 series they’ve played against them and England also lost to South Africa just a month ago. So it may seem that England are getting stronger, but perhaps they’re still lacking in consistency.

Okay, I guess that makes sense. It’s just that on recent form I’m sure England would be at better odds to beat Aus and NZ than they were in March.

Thanks. I think it’s best I also copy them out though, Lurch. Because, as I’ve found out recently, while that link works perfectly well for now, if in future months & years we want to go back to this point and see what the rankings were today, it’s bad luck. The list will simply have updated to show what the rankings are at that point in time and the rankings for Dec 8 2017 will be long gone.

    1 Australia 212
    2 New Zealand 183
    3 England 162
    4 Jamaica 149

South Africa is just 8 points behind Jamaica – that will get even more interesting

They’ll probably do one soon. Tried to do a bit of a workout last night. England slowly but surely catching NZ, but they haven’t caught them yet. Probably about 174 to 168. Which brings us back to the old problem that CG and WC matches are weighted no differently to just an ordinary old test match. I think they definitely should be.

Ah ok. I guess there will be a big move in July when they devalue a lot of NZ’s wins from 3-4 years ago by 50%. And yes, funny that major tournaments aren’t worth extra

Especially with teams often having nowhere near their best teams for ordinary old test matches.
