Looks like Kumwenda will be with the team after all…

So Malawi is playing for ranking. This article says if they lose, they may lose their 6th place. I thought the top 6 are head and shoulders above the rest.

The top 5 are far ahead of the rest, but 6th and 7th (Wales) are not that far apart. I don’t have a clue what results are needed for them to swap places, though. (Fiji and Uganda are only just below Wales as well.)

If Malawi gets at least one win against England, they should hold on to their spot. But if Malawi doesn’t manage a single win against England, Wales will overtake them with 2 likely wins against Samoa.

Everything’s just going wonderfully with that team, huh?

But I would back Malawi to beat Wales, even without Kumwenda. the ranking is not quite reflective of the teams because Malawi is under resourced in the travelling stakes. I think Wales does not have that depth yet to pull out consistent performances against the top 6, and Malawi play a definite step up. Having said that, I think that Malawi would have to pull out performances close to their best to beat England, on the back of this drama. Lets see if England’s squad is up to the challenge of Malawi at their best!

Good to see Mwai is back there. I would still be tipping an England win despite them playing a B team.

I don’t think it will be a walk in the park for the Roses but the next test for Malawi will be the weather, -1 to -5F most nights this week.
