Have heard from a very close source that Folau is going to be based in Sydney and only fly around for games. She has a training schedule she needs to do in Sydney and will fly in to Adelaide every now and then for certain things.

Did anyone think it was going to be any different, from what she did at the Mystics.  She prob won’t even meet her new team until the 1st game.

    Just hurry up and retire.

Tbirds obviously don’t do team building like the Firebirds do. Bit hard to Skype into an army jungle training camp from Sydney . . .  :dance2:

I was excited about having a player like Maria on hand to develop our young shooters. How is she going to establish connections when she doesn’t train with them? I am really disappointed in the Thunderbirds. They can use the excuse that they didn’t have a lot of options but I know for a fact they had several options and stuffed them up. I hope the local media savage them for this. Renae Ingles will be doing a lot of her pre season from the US but will then commit to the team for the season while her husband remains over seas. Another stuff up from the Thunderbirds. The president ends his tenure early next year and hopefully the CEO will follow.

If this is true (which it sounds likely that it is), this is not good for the Thunderbirds as a team. As much as Folau is a quality player, and that can’t be denied, any player who is flying in and out for games and having minimal training session with the team, is going to cause disruption. I’m really really hoping this isn’t true because Thunderbirds are about due for some success, but things aren’t looking good. The defence end is going to be stellar but the attack end is going to be really really weak, especially is Folau isn’t playing until AFTER the WC and then won’t even be training with them…..

This is great. Im not overally familiar with Cathy Fellows, but its great to see Nat in the coaching team. Hopefully she can bring that professionalism and success that she haddl while she was playing to this fairly young midcourt. So is Cathy a shooting specialist, or is Obst?

Another SA talent moved elsewhere for an opportunity. Sienna Allen is a Sunshine Coast Lightning training partner.

Allen is very young and raw so I personally would not blame Thunderbirds for not picking her up jsut yet, but her 15 year old sister is already playing premier league in SA.

Agree there are other SA defenders who I would have picked ahead of Sienna. Both of the Allens have a lot of talent but they also need a lot of work.

And plus, you can only be angry at ‘another SA talent moving elsewhere’ if the training partner position is being taken up by a non-South Australian. As far as I know, they haven’t fully announced all their training partners so that could be the case that they sign an interstater, but either way, I would rather they sign the best talent they can, whether that be from SA or another state. I have a feeling that Chelsea Blackman will be back though.

Yes and generally, the Thunderbirds training partners are usually local talent except in cases where they sign ten players and someone gets injured

I have heard they have gone with a much larger group of training partners this year. Chelsea Lemke and Emily Burgess should be back. The article which announced Maisie Nankivell as a AFLW player said she was also a training partner. I’ve heard a couple of other names of ANL players as well.
