Interesting article. I have to say I am not enjoying the physicality. I think it’s too much. I am glad to be able to watch the NNZ games which are, for the most part, nothing like what I’ve seen the last two weeks. Three I noted are Jenner and Price and, Romelda’s elbow (Week 1 – that one was in front of me and I yelled at her to keep her elbows down – pretty sure from the look on her face she heard).  And then there was Hinchliffe’s hit on Medhurst, which I didn’t see at the time but looked awful in retrospect. And then there’s the F’Boofs’ defenders’ high penalty count, lots of contests are late and rough.

But the other one, in a different way is Liz Watson. She just runs into players on her very fast moves. I think she thinks they’ll get out of the way and sometimes they don’t. Yesterday she ran into a Giants’ player by the centre circle who didn’t get out of the way. Liz bounced off her and went offside and then was incredulous she was pinged for that infringement. It was quite comical.

Players are bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic, but the court is still the same size. I get annoyed with all the whistle. And then there’s all the nitpicky penalties with no advantage being played. That really annoys me. And players giving away niggly little infringements just to delay the opposition. Gets very annoying.

I enjoy contesting but I think the umpires need to adjust to gain control of the bashing into each other style of play and ease up on the soft penalties under the ring which don’t compare to things happening further up court.

The smack to Medhurst’s face was on purpose, game needs to tidy up in Aus.

Um on Sunday I see 2 games at the same venue, but 4hrs apart 1pm and 5pm.  That’s a bit odd, what’s happening in the 2hrs between?????
