Hmm. Does anyone else think this is a polite way of dropping her and saving face?

Doubt it if they decided to leave her out of the twelve they’d just cite being rested as the reason.

It is funny timing though, besides I wouldn’t want to have to gamble on JLP and Moloney being able to cover WD and not be able to use Simpson because of an injury lie. The rest will do her good either way and the midcourt looks quite balanced how it is.

I don’t think so because even though JLP has been playing well, she has only played a few games, so this could turn bad for Diamonds even without an in form Simpson

That’s what I was thinking. Got the 12 I wanted though. Great opportunity for Price. Hopefully also see Moloney tried there. Watson is the only midcourt we who genuinely plays two positions at international level at equal level (outstanding). Moloney has potential to cover two positions well. Diamonds need flexibility.

My thoughts are more in previous years they would have played Simpson with a minor injury as they wouldn’t have wanted to go in without her. Could argue this is better injury management. Many ways of looking at it.

I suspect she does have a minor injury,  but the injury has been a catalyst for the Diamonds to realise she needs rest – both from an injury management and performance perspective. I am excited to see Price and Moloney have to take responsibility for WD in her absence. I don’t mind losing Quad Series if it means we end up with a stronger understanding of our best 12 players because of it. If we do happen to win without CBass and Simpson,  and with such new players and combinations across the court, it is a huge credit to the Diamonds. Should be an exciting weekend of Netty!

Way I look at it… they picked 5 midcourters originally with 3 who could play WD, so I think that showed they were looking at testing out possible alternatives. Then they got what they wanted out of test 1 (LA was very impressed with JLP), so now they’re not afraid to make a change for a “minor injury” when if it was absolutely vital, Simpson probably could have played.

Yes there probably is an injury that they’ve chosen(wisely imo) to manage with rest rather than playing through.

Caity Thwaites and Lizzy Watson have been elevated to on-court captain and vice-captain for the Samsung Diamonds’ remaining matches in the #QuadSeries!

    Go VIXENS!!!!
